Nicknames are often given by chance at any stage of life and by anyone. Its just sticks.

My oldest daughter is Petunia. When she finally asked what a petunia is, I told her it's a beautiful little flower and my favorite. She's 13 now, and still likes that name. My son, even as an infant, could hold on to me so tightly, he was "Velcro boy" until he started walking. Then he grew into "Koala Dude". Now, so as not to embarrass him in front of anyone, it's been shortened to just "Dude", but we both know the "Koala" is still implied. My youngest is 15 months, and she's my "Pooky", just like Garfield's teddy bear. She sleeps in the bed with me and is sooo snugly and cuddly, nothing else seems to fit. If you want to call your kids by a nickname, it should suit their personality or appearance in some way. You won't even have to think about it, it'll just stick. My dad called me Matilda for years and I never knew why. Come to think of it, I'm going to ask him tomorrow! Good luck, and if you never give them a nickname, don't worry. I don't really think it's important. I've always had a tendency to give everyone I care about (or strongly dislike) a nickname. Not everyone does that!

I never had a nickname from my mother. My sister called me piglet, though. Also I never called my kids nicknames. Why do you want to call your kids something else? I think Dakota and Jersea are pretty names. I guess if you have to give them a nick name, I would say Kota and Sea (se-a)

None of my three children have nicknames infact when someone calls my children anything other than there names I get offended. I picked there names because they were unique and I liked them if I wanted to call them something else then I would have named them that. I sometimes call my son Buddy but that is about it.

My son Alexander goes by obviously Alex but I have a son Toby Jacob. We call him Toby, I was worried that he would be called TJ but he hasn't. Sometimes nicknames just don't come about. I've never had a nickname.

It's normal. When you pick out a name for your child, you pick it because it's unique to them. You don't think about nicknames. I named my son Damian... how hard is that to figure out a nickname?

my daughter's name is julie, and her nickname is BooBoo. my son's name is Marc and his nickname is Piglet. it doesn't have to have anything to do with their actual name, it could be something about them. with julie, she went everywhere with me so i kind of felt like yogi bear because i messed some things up (she was my first and i got a few things wrong at first) but she would always wait for me to get it right. she was my booboo. my son ate constantly, and he was squirmy and pink. i don't think i need to explain beyond that :)
