I'm 35 1/2 wks (due Nov 26) and I've been dealing with a lot of stomach and pelvic "discomfort." To help ease this, I laid the heating pad on my stomach/abdomen on top of my blanket. It must have helped because I ended up going back to sleep (for a few hours). The heat wasn't enough to burn me or turn my skin red, but my stomach was warm to the touch for a few minutes after I got up - that's when I began to worry whether or not I could've hurt the baby. At this point in the pregnancy, are there any major risks? I don't plan on using the heating pad anymore - this has worried me sick all day. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this and if the baby was ok.

Well, the baby was active for a little while this morning (and I think he even got hiccups). But, does this ensure that no damage was done?

I, however, did end up having some contractions, cramps, and pelvic pain/pressure last night. This is something that's actually been going on for about a week and half now which is why I got the heating pad out in the first place. I think I am going to go ahead and call my doctor and run this by him and see if he wants to see me. My next dr. appt is actually on the 31st, but he's out of (this) office on Fridays and Mondays (he has another office out of town).

I know it's impossible to expect you'll be able to if we say "calm down." :-) It's just not the nature of a mom.

Many of the things dangerous during pregnancies are theoretical and precautionary, so if you do something "wrong" once, a lot of times there's something like a 1 in 1 million chance something could happen. Don't keep doing it, but most times "one time" isn't going to mean you've killed your baby or anything like that.

I'm sure you're fine. If you feel a significant lack of movement (not a fetus having a nap) or cramps, call your doctor immediately.

If it makes you feel better, if you were in a hospital for certain things, even while pregnant, they would have no problem putting a heated blanket on you. Not that big a difference.

I think the heat damage (hot baths, hot tubs, saunas) in pregnancy actually has less to do with the heat to your belly and more to do with your body temperature as a whole. If you do something that will give you a "fever", the fever is possibly dangerous to the baby. A warm-to-the-touch, but not red or really hot, belly wouldn't have brought on a fever.

Try to rest and take comfort in the unlikeliness of a problem to your baby. :-)

Congratulations, and good luck!

No it is not Ok to use a heating pad... The baby was probably hot and he/she is in water, I could imagine how hot it got.

Did you feel your baby move today? I am also 35 weeks and I do not like to take bath because of risking burning my baby. I take showers and I always have my back to the water...

You have to be careful, hopefully the baby is fine... Good Luck!!!!

I dont think it would do any harm. If it was on top of the blankets and not touching your skin then it would be like putting extra blankets on your stomach. I wouldnt worry about it as long as the baby is moveing all right. If your worried about it call you doctor.

You probably havent done any damage. , but of course you know that that is not a good idea to do. So I would ask the doctor and they can monitor the baby to check for movements and things to make sure everything is ok. Just tell them you are really concerned about it.

If your skin was not burned, I think your baby is OK. After all, your body is there for protection. Are you going to call the doctor tomorrow, just to make yourself feel better? (A hot water bottle would be safer and at the same time help you.)

I'm sure everything is fine. I would use it on the lowest setting and like you did, between clothes and blankets. If you're really worried, call the dr and ask. But I can't imagine that it would cause any harm, especially this late in the pg. Take care!!!

It is a general rule of thumb that anything that hurts you, hurts the baby. I laid with a heating pad on my back all night long when I was about due and my son was fine.

My friend used to sit in hot water when she was pregnant because it helped with back pain and she had a baby boy with autisim. Call you doctor and ask. Dont worry!

Congrats
