When did you go for your first check up?? What should I expect for my first visit? When do I get my first sonogram? Any and every piece of advice or information for me about my pregnancy. I am only 18 and this is my first, I want to try to do everything I can right.

Congrats on your pregnancy. You should schedule an appointment as soon as possible to have your pregnancy confirmed via urine sample, there will also be a blood test. Most ultrasounds are done at 18 weeks, and the baby will start kicking so that you can feel it around then. Twenty weeks is a good time to start singing lullabyes. At 18-20 weeks you will also have a triple or quad screen blood test. For a boring pregnancy (boring is good), you will have an appointment every month until your third trimester at 24 weeks (where you will have a blood glucose screen if indicated), then every two weeks until the last month, then it becomes every week until you deliver. You will also need to have a check up soon after to be sure everything is healing.

Also, if you have trouble with pre-natal vitamins, you are not alone. You may want to add a serving of instant breakfast to pump up your daily vitamin/folic acid intake. You will also be asked to give a urine sample at EVERY OB appointment, so be prepared.

I have 4 children. I always went to the doctor for my first check up after I found out that I was pregnant. You need to make sure that you go as soon as possible so that you can be started on vitamins and have a pap done and be checked. My first sonogram was at about 4-5 months pregnant unless there was something wrong. Congradulations to you and you will do just fine. It is hard at first because I was 14 when I got pregnant with my first child and he is now 13 years old. The time goes by very fast and enjoy every moment. I hope things go well for you.

Find a doctor and call the office for an appt. The first check up is routine. They will start you on prenatal vitamins and folic acid, discuss your diet, tell you what to expect in the coming months etc. Take good care of yourself. Eat right and walk every day for an hour or so. Sonograms come later, unless there's a problem or concern. Ask your doctor or nurse.
Good luck

You should call and schedule your first appt as soon as you find out you're pregnant. You probably won't be seen until at least two months. You may have a sonogram then, but some doctors prefer to wait until you're over halfway through (when you can tell the sex, if you want to know that).

Advice: no alcohol or cigarettes, no hot tubs, no changing kitty litter, try to get exercise. Call your dr if you experience any bleeding or cramping (no, it doesn't mean something is necessarily wrong, but you need to let them know).

Get a copy of What to Expect When You're Expecting. Lots of good information in there.

Good luck!

First check-up was soon as I found out that I was pregnant and doctor asked when my last period was so he could estimate the birth of the baby. Then he gave me an internal some vitamins, a pap smear test and had me come back the next month for another exam. I believe my first sonogram was at three months.Just make sure you keep all your doctor appointments, go for any tests you are sent for, eat right, get as much rest as you can and stay away from alcohol and cigarettes too also keep away from fish and liver your first three months, if your vitamins make you feel sick then take them at night before going to bed. Good Luck.....................

well, for my two (three) i was seen at what we thought would be around 8 weeks. in ga with my first two, i had my first ultrasound done then. i had to give a urine sample and a blood sample, had my blood pressure taken, was weighed and have to give a family history (cancer, heart problems) and a personal history (drug use, smoking, std's and so on) then i was sent home and told to drink plenty of fluids and take my prenatal atleast five out of seven days a week (seven is best, but they can be constipating).

in southcarolina with my current pregnancy, i was seen around twelve weeks. i was not supposed to have an ultrasound, but they couldn't find the heart beat so they did one anyway to make sure eveything was okay (everything was) the rest was the same. hope this helps.

Don't wait to go to the Dr. to get started on prenatal vitamins. At least take a female multivitamin with folic acid until you get your first appointment. Congrats.

Call the dr and they'll schedule your appt. You probably won't get your first ultrasound until around 20 weeks. Just follow the drs advice and you'll do just fine.
