It was nothing more than dirt. Do you think for a moment with a world championship on the line that Tony would have tolerated a pine tar incident? Whether he is friend with Leyland or not, if it was a blatant act of cheating it would have been Tony's duty to have Rogers thrown out of the game. It owes that to his team, franchise and owner.
It would not have bother me if I was in the same situation. That's why I really believe it was nothing more that dirt.

According to former major leaguer Brian McCrae who was interviewed on the radio today, it was pine tar and though illegal he said "Everybody does it." He speculated that a certain TV announcer who used to play for the Cardinals brought it up on camera so that the people in the Cardinals clubhouse could tip LaRussa off.

ok in my opinion.. it was definately pine tar
the commentators showed pictures of the other 2 games he pitched this postseason and he happened to have the same "dirt spot" in the same spot for both games... also, in the post game press conference he said the ump didnt ask him about the stuff on his hand but the umpire said he did ask him. Why would he lie about it if hes innocent?
it doesnt matter either way though, LaRussa never asked the ump to check and Rogers washed it off and still pitched amazing

It was pinetar. It became visable when he would drop his hand to pick up the ball and soiled his hand with a little dirt. With the pinetar on his hand being sticky a little dirt stuck to it and made it visable. If you think it was just dirt your crazy cause they went back and reviewed previous games in the playoffs and you can see the same dirt at the exact same spot just not as noticeable. He got caught and should have got suspended, And yes i am rooting for the Tigers to win.

If you would have listened to the news the head umpire guy said he confirmed it was ROSIN, DIRT, AND MOISTURE. How much plainer can that be?

every pitcher use to use pine rosin(dried pine sap) was in a powder form and in a little sack that ALL pitchers used. of course I haven't watched a Ball game 19 years so they may do something different now. also I thought that Kenny Rodgers was a singer.
