I was at a stopsign and my car suddenly would not move. It shifts in gear but will not go. It was fine earlier and I can't understand what happened so suddenly. I had my car towed home and was told it could be the transmission. It has fluid in it, so does this mean that I need a new transmission?

When the car starts now it makes a funny noise that it didn't before. The car is automatic and shifts easily in gear but will not move. When I had the car towed home, I was told it could be the transmission needs to be replaced. Is this the problem and if so how long does it take to repair?

I don't think you would need a new transmission. It could be the torque converter. When the car is running and make alot noise in the transmission area it will be the torque converter

Look in your phone book for a transmission shop, close to you if possible, they may come and pick it up and fix your problem. Stay away from regular shops and dealers.
Be sure to get a firm price. They will need to pull the transmission out first.
Gonna cost a few hundred $$
