I have lent CDs to friends simply for them to rip the songs to their computer, not burn them onto a CD. This technically isn't making a copy, right? If you have an answer, do you also have a web site to back up your answer? Thanks

Illegal. You are making a copy. Remember Napster where people were just swapping music? That was illegal for the same reason.

It is illegal. However, websites where you download from can trace who is DLing the music, and find you. Lending music to friends is untraceable.

wrong!! it's a copyright violation, the copy is not a backup copy for your personal use!! Read copyright laws!!
