I usually use the patch but am considering not bothering next month because I am starting antibiotics which weakens the effectiveness anyways. I will not be having sex in the next month so if I do not use it for a month and then start it again the sunday after my period will everything be normal?

Well, first of all, this is something that is best to ask your doctor. They generally know best.

Second of all, please disregard any insensitive comments regarding your use of birth control. Your choice to use contraception is your method of taking responsibility for your actions, and it is no one's place to tell you otherwise.

My experience with antibiotics and birth control is this: antibiotics inhibit the absorption of hormones from your BC, and therefore it is less effective/ineffective. However, I think that it is smart to continue using your patch simply because it will help you keep on your regimen.

As for when you start the BC, I do not know when it is safe to begin having sex again after putting your patch back on--you should go to your birth control manufacturer's specific page and look for this information, and if you cannot find it you should call their 1-800 number for information.

My experience with the pill, however, is that no matter where I am on my pack of pills if I take antibiotics I -HAVE- to use a backup method until I begin a NEW pack of pills entirely, even if I was just beginning the pack I had.

Hope this helps!

Any sort of birth control gives your body chemicals to think its pregnant. That is how you dont get pregnant. To stop using the patch for a month......not a big deal as long as you are NOT sexually active, but it can mess with your body. You will probably have side effects that you are not use to.

I would recommend consulting your gynocologist first.

Yes. It will all work the same. Read the info that comes with the birth control. It will be like starting it for the first time.

you have to be on birth control for a month before you can be sure it'll work. that means going without sex for 2 months if you get off for 1 month

IF YOU DO DECIDE MAKE SURE TO USE SOME FORM OF PROTECTION TO BE SAFE. YES, ANTIBIOTICS AND BIRTH CONTROL PILLS DO NOT MIX AND YOU CAN GET PG.

Ask your doctor. I can't imagine why it wouldn't be okay, if you're not sexually active.

If you change your mind about the sex part, you can use a condom with spermicide.
