when water starts to boil it is starting to change phases from liquid to gas, the energy put into the reaction is going into the phase change rather than heat increase.

Going from a solid to a liquid takes energy, going from a liquid to a gas takes energy. Temperature does not change during a change in phase because the energy is being used for each molecule to change state. That is why the change of phase graph is in steps.

The freezing and boiling points require input or removal of energy, but the temperature doesn't change.

lets say it requires a certain amount of energy to freeze a certain amount of water to a certain temperature. .... it would require more energy to freeze more water to the SAMe temperature. but again im not sure if thats what ure asking
