I have been renting in San Diego and I have a dog and my landlord is telling me I have to bomb for fleas before I move out. This is not in my lease.

By the way, the dog does not have fleas.

No. He's just trying to save himself the time and trouble of doing it.

The only thing you can ignore is called "normal wear and tear" on the apartment. An infestation of fleas from your dog is not considered wear and tear. Go ahead and bomb, it doesn't cost that much. Otherwise you may not get your full security/cleaning deposit back.

Are you positive its not in your lease. There is usually a separate 'rider' for pets. The pet addendum may include a 'bug bomb' requirement. Its probably cheaper and easier to do it than to fight it.

I don't believe it's mandatory, though it might be a thoughtful thing to do. Bombs don't cost that much, and might save some arguing. Anyway, just a thought....
