The knot at the junction is in equilibrium under the influence of four forces acting on it. The F force acts from above on the left at an angle of A degrees with the horizontal. The 5.1 N force acts from above on the right at an angle of 49 degrees with the horizontal. The 5.3 N force acts from below on the right at an angle of 42 degrees with the horizontal. The 5.9 N force acts from below on the left at an angle of 45 degrees with the horizontal.
a. What is the magnitude of the force F in Newtons?
b. What is the angle A of the force F?

Resolve everything into x and y components.

For the x-values:

F cos A + 5.9 cos 45 = 5.1 cos 49 + 5.3 cos 42
F cos A = 3.1126386

For the y-values:

F sin A + 5.1 sin 49 = 5.9 sin 45 + 5.3 sin 42
F sin A = 3.8693034

Divide the y-result by the x-result to get:

tan A = 1.2430943
A = 51.185264 degrees

Substitute A into either the x- or y-results to get

F = 4.9658864 N

You can round this stuff off any way you like.
