sounds like a problem with your brake booster. when the booster goes bad, it takes vaccum from the engine to run the power brakes, hince the car goes dead.

Do you have an automatic transmission? If so maybe the torque converter in the tranny is staying locked up which would have the same effect as hitting the brakes in a manual transmission and not stepping on the clutch. Put it in neutral when you want to stop and see what happens. If the engine stays running look at your transmission

You will need to get a new power brake booster because it is no good. Check it by pumping the brakes until it gets hard to push. Then hold the pedal down and start the vehicle. If the pedal goes down, your power brake booster is fine, but, if the pedal stays relativey the same then you need a new brake booster. Good luck

It's the timing. When the car is idling, it continues to run on it's own without extra gas. When you take your foot off the gas pedal to hit the brake, the engine is not getting enough gas and so it dies.
Check the Idle setting, mixtures and timing.

What a page full of nonsense. Take your pick, I bet they are all wrong. The brake booster answer is a possibility but who knows if you have one.

Are you driving a stick shift? If so, you need to hit the clutch when you stop, otherwise your car will die.

the only thing that will do that is a blown brake booster diaphram. when they blow it releases all your vaccuum pressure and your carb shuts..
