You can make him understand it by your actions
but unless your 100% sure that this won't end the friendship
than don't say a thing untill he figures out and shows some affection back...

Well it depends if your bestfriend is bi too. If he is, then you need to contemplate the question "Am I willing to risk our friendship in the case that we fall out?" Because a lot of "love" relationships end on a down note. Then you will be left without a lover and a bestfriend. ON the other hand if your bestfriend is straight, I would just leave it best as a friendship and find somebody else to have a crush on. Letting him know you like him and you knowing that he doesnt like guys can kind of put a damper on the friendship. At all costs think of your friendship first. If it is eating away at you and you need to get it off your chest then make up a similar situation and ask his opinion about it using fictitious names.
