substitute (1,2) for x,y in the problems. that should do the trick

Substitute 1 for x and 2 for y: Looks like this:

x=1, y=2

m(1) + 3(2) = 8 >> m + 6 = 8 >> m = 2

-3(1) + 4(2) = b >> -3 + 8 = b >> b = 5

First plug in x=1 and and y=2 for each equation:

m(1) + 3(2) = 8

and

-3(1) + 4(2) = b

Then solve for m by reagranging the problem:

m(1) + 3(2) = 8
m + 6 = 8
m = 8 - 6
m =2

-3(1) + 4(2) = b
-3 +8 = b
8 - 3 = b
5 = b

does that make sence?
best of luck!
