I got my daughter a prepaid phone to begin with so she would learn the value of minutes. She had to pay for her own when they ran out except during holidays and thats what she got for a gift. When she proved her responsibility i got her a good phone and i pay the bill while she's in school. We have verizon. I think prepaid phones are a good idea for someone who's starting out and on a budget.

TMobile Prepaid was my first. Got it when I was 16, and still have the same plan, just a diff phone. You can get a decent Nokia phone kit at like WalMart or Target for around $40.
DON'T do tracfone, everyone i know that has it hates it!

if u want to listen to music buy a razr, i got my verizon razr 4 free and it plays music and i love it, its my second fonel, b4 i had a crappy nokia without a color screen with cingular , if ur clumsy u mite wanna nokia or motorola thick heavy flip fone. tmobile has a fone called the motorola v360, can store 100 songs mp3 format and is regular size, with sprint u mite wanna hav a sanyo katana
