its about public school policies, thats a government orginazation so i descided this would be a good category. my school doesnt let its students wear hats/hoodies. i have seen people get called on this before. i dont realy know her (only pass her in the hall ocasionally, never spoken to her) but theres this muslim girl that goes to my school. everytime i see her she is wearing a "muslim hoodie" (i dont realy know wut their called) isnt that a violation of the dress code? why dont they make her take it off? what makes her so special? can i make my own hoodie religion and walk in one day with a hoodie on and when they tell me to take it off could i say "im a Hoodalaiharian, if i take off my hoodie the great Pewnigaliarian will strike me dead with lightning from the heavens!" what could they do about that?

Well her "hoodie" as you call it is for religious practices BUT and I stress you should find out before you go waving your arms around looking silly anyway I do believe practicing Religions in school was banned or I know for a fact that they took it out of our schools. AND if this is so NO NO NO she should NOT be allowed to wear it during school!! Its unfair to tell America we can't teach religion in the schools but then allow someone from other cultures to practice "their" religion. Now if this has been passed at your school you may want to reflect on WHY it really bothers you so much? Is it because you feel as an American you are denied practice of religion or is it truly because you want to keep up with the latest fashions? And also you should ask yourself does it make you a better person to go singling out this girl who is probably having a hard enough time fitting in? And how would you feel if it were you having to stick out like that knowing the others are making a fuss? Maybe it would do the school in its entirety good to learn of HER beliefs. Couldn't hurt.

The fact that you can't wear a hoodie sucks. But really I think that you need to educate yourself on the subject before you start complaining and making waves. First of all she wears a veil and it is not even close to a "hoodie." Second of all she wears it for cultural reasons and not for fashion and what not. Finally, there is this wonderful thing called freedom of religion; and schools and organizations cannot restrict people from practicing their religion whether it is praying or wearing a veil or yarmulke.
Here's an idea, why don't you try talking to her. Maybe she can educate you about her culture.

have you ever thought that maybe she doesnt want to wear the headpiece, but because of her religion or her family she has to wear it. she may want to dress like you. why dont you try wearing a burkha, cover everything but your eyes... get hit with a stick if you are seen in public showing even the smallest piece of skin. Maybe your parents could arrange for you to be married to some guy much older than you in exchange for a few camels. What if you lived in a country where you had to walk 5 miles to the city.. only to get there and be told you cant go in because the guard said so.. no reason given, so you have to walk 5 miles back with your baby on your hip. What if you had to worry about people being kidnapped out of your home, killed, bombed, raped so on and so forth?. What if you werent aloud to drive because you are female. What if your husband made you ride in the back of your truck while he put the goats in the front seat with him for a long trip across the desert? Get over it... Grow up and quit yer whining. Is wearing a hoody in school such a big thing to concern yourself with? At least you get to choose what you get to wear, women and girls in other countries dont even have this simple freedom.

A "muslim hoodie" (lol) is called a hijab. But anyway, I personally don't think they should make her take it off, because there's this girl at my school who wears a hijab and no one cares. It's her freedom of religion. But if u feel like they should make her take it off, talk to someone about it, although I think it's not that big of a deal. She's not any more special than anyone else, it's just her religion. ; )

Rules apply to every one or no one, He's in America so he has the right to believe what ever he wants but do to safety and Equality at it's most primal level he needs to conform to the school rules or the school needs to let every one wear hoodies. Remind your school to set the example that they must lead by example and the example there giving is that some people can do what ever they want and others can not. This in turn teaches the young impressionable mind such as your own that rules can be broken with no consequences to some, which in turn causes problems later in society.

You are talking a load of rubbish, and you're not funny either.

You come across as very immature.

Are you also advocating the banning of wearing chritian crosses? Jewish Skullcaps? Hinduh turbans? Going by your logic - that all religious symbols be taken out of the school, you must be!

Imagine people hated bimbos as much as you hate Muslims. You'd be in a lot of trouble then wouldn't you? I can just imagine the calls to 'wipe out the non-thinkers! Killl the airheaded fools!' Actually that might not be that bad.

Anyway, people who wear hoodies are idiots. They mindlessly follow crap corporate rappers. When you are bit more mature you will realise this.

What it means kid is that life isn't fair - her reason for wearing what you call a "hoodie" is for religious reasons and you making up silly religion just to wear a "hoodie" is pretty silly. Maybe you ought to get to know the "middle eastern kid" and you could understand more of the significance of her "hoodie." It sounds like such a conversation and a little lesson on cultural diversity and appropriate behavior would be a good idea for you - give it a shot - it might be a good bonus for you.

It's part of her culture and religion. Try to respect that. It's probably hard enough for her to go to an American school where we seem very different to her. Maybe you should try talking to her. It's interesting to learn about other people's cultures. Think how she must feel to be here. If you are really upset about the dress code at your school, organize a petition to go to the board of ed to have it changed. I have a feeling that it's not the "hoodie" that's bothering you, it's the fact that she is someone different and strange. You should try to be tolerant, diversity is something you are going to have to deal with sooner or later.

You sound like you're a little jealous of this muslim person. Honestly, it is their religion and you have to respect it. It's part of our constitution. Freedom of religion. Just as a school wouldn't be allowed to ban to wearing of a cross around the neck, they aren't allowed to ban any sort of outfit reflecting a religious belief.

Ethocentrism is the belief that your culture is superior to another. Sometimes, you may not even realize that you are doing this. But right now, you are showing very stong ethocentrism. I think you have to realize that this is their religion, and they have a freedom to express this.

Basically, it requires an open mind.

Let me be contrarian and politically incorrect. In 1745 my ancestors were rooted from their homes, herded like cattle to the nearest port and forced onto ships carrying them to desolate shores all around the globe. Celtic blood runs thick in my viens.

Wearing a "hoodie" as you call it in modern western culture is as ridiculous as me striding down main street whenever it pleases me in my kilt, bagpipes wailing, claymore over my shoulder, dirk on my belt, skeen dubh in my sock and raping, pillaging and plundering in my mind. It's ludicrous!

It speaks more about the wearer than it does about the system that allows and supports that freedom of expression.
