I really need to be more motivated for school. I feel that I'm doing great intelligence/IQ/intellectual capacity-wise (I got into MENSA, but that's not something that I'm too proud of at the moment since the local members I know kinda seem like jerks), but I'm just not getting enough motivation for schooling.

I'm putting more of my time into other activities, and would rather get successful in my future career by being an entrepreneur or public personality/actor.

Can someone help me get motivation to do well in school?

You're going to have to encourage yourself! Tell yourself about the benefits of getting a better education and try not to focus on the actions of others!! Think about the opportunities and benefits you will have after completing your degree!! Look at those that you think are jerks as individuals that are trying to hold you back or discourage you from doing something with yourself!!

I got a full-tuition scholarship, but was kind of floating around, not quite sure what I was doing. I still had to pay for room and board, so I got a job at a fast food place in the "big city" for three months. Boy, I knew I didn't want to be coming home smelling like french fry grease for the rest of my life, and it helped me focus on what I wanted out of life.

My sister also got a great scholarship -- complete full ride. Then she lost it through goofing off. But, happy ending -- after working two or three part time jobs, she paid for her own college and she *squeezed* the education thing dry. She knew what she wanted, and she graduated a little later than most, but she got a great education.

My advice is to try and get a part-time or summer job in the real world. It will help you focus what you want from school. You may find that school doesn't actually have a lot to offer you until you know what questions to ask the teachers.

Good luck!

I was accepted to MENSA but i decided to not enter the community. most people there are jerks as they believe that they're supperior to the rest of the world. Anyways:
For motivation, go for what you like most. Think of world in a positive way and imagine all the good things in life. Try getting an occupation that satisfies you and not one that the society expects you to get (like the stereotype doctor and lawyers!)
go for what you like and expand your borders. Also, get the best out of school because the information and friends that you gain through it will be the best part of your life.

Hope this helps and i wish you luck.

1) people expect motivation to come before action. often, an exercise of will is needed first, to engage in an action and then the motivation follows. force yourself to go for a walk, and by the middle of the walk, you're loving it and want to keep going.

2) do you need to be in school? not everyone does. If you have a specific plan for pursuing your entrepeneurial goals, follow that plan. if you want to be an actor, get going. you can educate yourself without school. if you are not looking for a career that needs the credentials from a diploma, don't pursue that.

"The Teenage Liberation Handbook - How To Quit School And Get A Real Life" might offer lots of encouragement and direction. Before you find the book, you can find lots of internet discussion about the ideas therein.

If you want to be in theater or own your own business, take courses that will help you make that happen.

The classes that you must take to meet a school requirement that don't really interest you, you can get thru by trying to get something out of them. Are you bored? Do you not feel challenged? If thats the case, talk to your professor about possibly testing out of them.
If its not that your bored, your just not interested in the subject try to learn something from them, even if it will have nothing to do with your future endeavors. you can never know too much!

I KNOW the feeling. It seems like I was spending all my time smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco and I was a STRAIGHT A Student until I got addicted to nicotine. (I quit now and have a 3.5 now) But I can say this: You have to kick yourself in the butt. Comit times that you WILL work on homework and dont allow yourself to stray from that goal.

I want to quit all off the time. But my motivation is my two kids. I want to be able to better support my children and give them a good life.

If you want to be an entrepreneur, then school is just an obstacle between you and your dreams. Stop the madness and do what you love.
