I remember seeing residents or their kids raking the leaves by their houses and pile them up. but now I just see these Hispanic workers blowing the leaves onto the street and some times even almost got hit by cars.

Whether a leaf blower is "necessary" is really up to you.

However, there is at least one alternative, which consumes no gasoline, and makes less noise than a gasoline engine...

Some large shop vacs come with a detachable motor on top, which have connectors for the extension tubes. I used such a vac (it was a Sears model) as a leaf blower one year, by plugging into my 100-foot heavy duty, outdoor-rated extension cord. (Naturally, with a grounded plug.) It worked great!

Yes,several mfc. also have elecrical blowers. You can buy them at Sears,Home Depot Outlets,Lowes Home Inprovements Centers. Ace hardeware, True Value Hardeware stores: Some Mfc. Sears has there own Brand Craftsmen small horse power,Black & Decker, Toro,Ecco Has one also. The big difference with the electric vs gas is horse power Blowing, plus some also will suck-up an shread the leaves-up into bags. The Electrics start our approximately$89.99 upto $189.99 plus you will need to buy seperate extion cord for what you will be using it for. Like 50' or 100' However keep in mind not good to use over 100' drop cord loose amps and power: Now you may look at a smaller gas unit put out by Ecco called the #231P- It is both small leaf blower and Shreader Vac: This is a 2 cycle engine no bigger then small weed eater. Now it is copatable with the Toro electrical however just power to blow and sucks better the leaves get shreaded-up very fine. However it does Retail more .You can find them at Ace hardware stores for approximately $289.99 with the accessory pack then add up to $312.95 in some areas. So, I hope this helps you yes the noise vol. or decibuls on electric is less compard to gas. Good Luck.

When I rake them into the street the traffic going by blows them all back on to the yard.

At may last home I had space for a garden & I buried them all.

No I just mulch them with my lawn mower. The trees leafs are smaller.

But when the leaves are all mixed in the bushes the blower works best in getting them out.

I think they are utterly annoying & totally not necessary. What ever happened to the old fashioned rake or broom? I can't stand to be driving past leaf blower-people who rudely blow their entire pile of grass onto my car & the street. You can't even enjoy driving with your windows down anymore.

IF you want to keep your lawn, etc clean of leaves, etc, then a leaf blower is great.. I have one.... I do not like the gasoline one because of the noise so I use an electric one.. the leaf blower and of course a long orange electrical cord
