What does the word actually mean?*

And why do people respect someone else's request when they use that word?

*(Please no dictionary references!)

If the origin means "take pleasure in" or "if you please", then the person you say please to must take it as a form of respectfulness and as a humble request. It's like a really really polite request with a bit of begging thrown in.

You haven't even mentioned what the word is. How can you expect anybody to help you?

Oh you mean the word "please".

It's based on the word pleasure. To make good or to give pleasure. It's a word used as etiquette. Always in the act of offering good to someone in hopes of your request being granted.

You really ought to consult dictionaries since whatever else people give you without consulting such would be less than accurate.

It's spoken in different languages like "love". If you cannot understand that the word itself is it's own explanation, then you better use it more often.

Haha some of you even miss the word. The word is ACTUALLY. Ok so I got that but actually I'm not totally sure what it would be defined as. But actually I quite like using it. So actually you've ruined me whole night because I don't actually know how to define I actually use all the time. WHY why why it's just mean to ask a question like that. Excuse me while I look it up.

P.S. Phew Merriam Webster restored my night. I actually know what actually means!

P.S. P.S What I thought I was smart by figuring out the hidden word. That's even double mean now! Excuse me while I sulk.

The word is "PLEASE". Its because, it has the humbleness and it is said with respect. It is used when the person doesn't want to hurt ( sound bossy or order ) the other person, but still wants him to do something.
