I used the ClearBlue fertility monitor. It is made to handle longer cycles if necessary (mine can be almost 40 days long sometimes). You just keep checking every day for a few weeks until you finally get the symbol that you are ovulating. The amount of time between when you ovulate and the start of your period is the luteal phase. It is usually very consistent in all women. For me, some months I will have a 28 day cycle, and others a 40 day cycle, but my L.P. is always 12 days. It is the days leading up to ovulation that can vary for me. The monitor really is much easier than the hit-or-miss methods we would have to use with OPKs. You can get one new for 200 dollars or buy a used one on eBay and reset it by removing the batteries. Good luck.

10-14 days is the average, but the length of your LP has nothing to do with when you start using your opk, once you ovulate the LP starts and you missed your chance. I would start testing between day 13-15 and she what happens continue to test until u get a positive, then next cycle u will have a better idea when to start using them. I myself have never had luck with the opks, I did better with charting.

It's simple to figure out how long your luteal phase is if you chart. www.fertilityfriend.com makes it very easy. You just take your temperature every morning and enter it in. Your temp will raise after ovulation and fertility friend will tell you when you ovulated. Then you'll know exactly what's going on with your cycle.

i dont know about the opk's, but from the time you ovulate to the day before your period is your luteal phase. a cycle of 29-31 days is not irregular. its quite normal.

i'd suggest buying a *BBT thermometer* (this is different from the regular thermometer that is used for fevers) and charting your temperature for a few cycles. this'll give you an idea of which cycle day you ovulate. from there, you'll be able to figure out how long your luteal phase is. good luck.

try starting the OPK from Cycle day 10, which is 1st day of lmp. Also, I have read that charting bbt temps help, but honestly I am confused with it. With my first pregnancy I charted my Cervical mucus.
