If not, what has prohibited the US from being economically just?

History is filled with accounts of the poorest of Americans amassing fortunes. So no, I don't think there is economic "injustice." Surely someone born into poverty is at a disadvantage, but it is not insurmountable. In my experience, it's all about attitude and outlook. I am the youngest of five children, born into a family that at times had nothing in the refrigerator but a box of Arm & Hammer; however, my parents instilled in me the value of education, determination, and hard work. It's easier to blame "society" than to take personal accountability.

I'm afraid that every nation with every form of economic structure will always have the 'haves and the have nots'. Yet the American economic structure is far superior to any that have been born by the mind of man so far. This is a nation were if you work hard, study hard, and have just a few breaks you can pull yourself up from economic obscurity. The main problem we have is we as Americans like bad news and nothing pleases us more than to see bad news on TV or to read bad news in the paper. Economic bad news is part and parcel on the evening news. How many times have you read or saw an article about good economic news? Its not that it isn't out there, because it is, just look at how prosperous this nation is. The poorest American in this country is richer than 95% of the rest of the worlds population. We seem to be just a bit spoiled if we don't drive a new car or have several TVs or live in a mansion. Is there economic justice in the U.S.....well com-paired with the rest of the planet YES!!!

Well, poverty is a cycle. How can you go to college and make something of yourself if you grew up in a poverty culture that influenced you to ruin your life with pregancy, drugs, crime, etc before you were even out of the starting gate?
