If you do Kegel exercises while pregnant, does that tighten up the inside of the vagina, I'm talking about the round hole itself (birth canal).

I'm just wondering because if you tighten up those muscles around that hole, won't that make it harder for the baby to come out.

It will improve the muscle tone and assist in delivery. Keep Kegeling.

I would imagine that it would make it EASIER for the baby to come out, since you're improving the muscle tone in that area. I doubt that the kegel exercises would do any harm. They'll most likely help, especially after delivery, to tighten up the muscles. Most women have to do kegels AFTER delivery to help with urinary incontinence. Don't stress about it though...kegels definitely won't hurt anything.

Kegel exercise help "tone up" the vaginal muscles so that labor theoretically is easier to get through...Also, if you do Kegel's frequently while pregnant and then after, it'll help reshape your vaginal wall so that it isn't just horribly "loose". That way our poor husbands won't feel like they are throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

What makes delivery hard esp. the first baby is the dilation of your cervix (the opening of your uterus) and the shifting of your pelvic bones. Kegals will help strengthen your vaginal walls and help each push to work more effectively. More important it will help with incontinence after you have the baby and help your vaginal walls not to collapse.

The use of pain relievers, position during delivery and other things can greatly affect the pushing stage.

it strengthens the muscles, making it easier (physically anyway) to give birth, and also reduces the risk of tears and such. my first baby was a whopping 9 pounds 1 (i'm only 5' and a small frame) without any tears, just the normal grazing that you get, but it was pretty minimal. (it's also useful for sex, you grip the penis with your muscles, it'll drive him crazy!!!)

I think that helps with control during labor although it does help tighten it up after the baby is born.

Making those muscles stronger makes it easier to push the baby out.

I WOULD THINK THAT IT WOULD BE EASIER TO HAVE THE BABY, B/C YOU WILL HAVE TIGHTER MUSCLES TO PUSH THE BABY OUT.
