Alright, so I have a 97 isuzu oasis minivan. It has power steering, and for whatever dumb reason, after I turned the car off, I decided to see how far I could turn it, then all of a sudden it clicked and got stuck..the wheels didn't turn at all either...and now the steering wheel won't move and when I stick the key in it won't turn at all..I'm really confused and I need to get to school in the morning!

Insert the key and as you attempt to turn the key to the start position, turn the steering wheel VERY HARD in the same direction you were when you heard the click. The key and wheel should release when you do. Because the power steering is not in effect with the engine off, it will require EXTRA effort.

Good Luck

The steering is pressing back against the steering linkage which has the steering wheel in a bind against the anti-theft lock plate behind the steering wheel. While turning the steering wheel to the left or right try turning the key to release the lock pin.

It's a feature built into alot of cars. No so much now but pretty common. You have to pull on the steering wheel to unlock it. I think you pull first in the direction you were turning and then hold it. With the other hand turn the key. Iv'e done it a bunch of times parking on hills and I locked the wheel. It shouldn't be a big deal at all. Just turn hold and start.

Watch you do is turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and while doing that turn the key to start it.

The steering is locked. SAme happened to my 97 pathfinder. Insert the key then try to turn it and at the same time, swerve the steering wheel from left to right constantly.

If the other methods mentioned here dont get the steering wheel lookse, Try rocking the van from the outside to take the pressure off...This used to happen to me in a Honda when I parked on an incline with the wheels kinked. Good luck!

Normally turning to full lock wont cause any damage, but will wear the tyres a bit faster. Th only possibility is if you hit an obstruction when the steering is solid on lock, then things can get bent

It seems that you've jammed the lock assembly. Try holding the steering wheel forcefully to the left and turn the ignition over.

The linkage line to your transmission will have to be disconnected and reconnected before anything , steering wheel or key will work.
