This is a true story i swear: one time I was laying in bed just about ready to fall asleep and I heard someone or something whisper my name.

I know the spookiest thing that happened to my male roommate....a bunch of us had weird experiences in the house we were renting, and most of us were positive it was haunted.

One late night we were sitting talking about his relationship when suddenly we heard footsteps where no one was, then suddenly the power proceeded to flicker on and off several different home electronics all connected to the same power bar, all at signifigant intervals (TV, VCR, answering machine, lamp, stereo).

He jumped on top of the sofa he was so scared and freaked out.

I told him that we'd been living there long enough to know whatever it was wasn't going to hurt us. He chilled but was a bit shaken.

Lots more stuff happened over the years we lived there, but nothing mean. The most common was the smell of baking.

A friend who worked at the land registry later told us the house was over a hundred years old. She tried to trace it back further, but no records had been made before that time.

I had nightmares all night of being in my bathtub and blood was being smeared all over it and the bathroom. It was a very violent dream, every time I would wake and go back to sleep it was the same "dream". At about 5 in the morning I got up and went to the bathroom, very groggy from not sleeping well, while sitting on the toilet I heard a violent bang on the bathroom door and felt a cool wind go through the room. When I tried to open the door at first I couldn't and I yelled at my (now husband) to stop messing with me and open the door (he had no idea about the restless sleep). He thought I had locked the door and was messing around and had slammed the door shut trying to wake him up. We tried the door again and it opened with ease. I explained everything to him, he swears to this day it was not him, we moved... Yes, other weird things started happening but that was the scariest.

Was driving around rural Waverly, Iowa with my 'son' and my boyfriend (courtesy son, young male friend)...we stopped for son to show us a place he used to visit as a child. I sat and looked at the house, and the animals in the yard, and then at the lady who came out and seemed to be looking at them...asked son 'is that your friend?' - he said what? no one's there. The house burned 5 years ago, and she died just before that. The whole thing was an apparition - when I described her (later, much later, after several stiff drinks) and sketched her picture, he said it was definitely the lady who lived there - they called her the goat woman, because she had lots of goats - which I also saw, and which weren't there either...made a believer out of me!

When I was about 15 a friend and I though it would be fun to do a stupid seance, we had all the candles going and stuff, we closed our eyes at one stage during the seance, and when we opened our eyes the candles we had lite had burnt out, sometimes I think it was just my friend playing mind games with me but when we went to re - lite the candles my friend must have lent over a candle or something because her hair caught on fire, she thinks it was something evil that did that, but i think she was just not watching what she was doing, and she was kinda strange aswell. dunno that was kinda spooky at the time.
