hello,
i just hooked up my dlink router.
i first connected it with the cable. to configure the router.
and it was great.
then i enabled the wireless on the router.
then wireless on my laptop.
wireless works.

but i want to use the lan cable. so i plug it in. and disconnect the wireless.
and nothing happens.
IE says page cannot be found.

my network -> local area connection status says
limited or no connectivity. you might not be able to access the internet ...this problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.

is there any way of using the lan connection? and not wireless?

thanks

hey geek,
not sure.
lookling at the router
Static DHCP
Static DHCP is used to allow DHCP server to assign same IP address to specific MAC address.
this is disabled. should it be enabled?

You said you have DHCP enabled on your router. Make sure your LAN connection on your PC is set up to obtain its IP address dynamically. Otherwise, DHCP won't work with it.

Could be your NIC on your system? When the cable is unplugged does the system realize that? If the router provides an IP address (DHCP) you could try releasing your IP and renewing via the ipconfig /release/renew command.

You could try a "repair" on your LAN connection as well, right click on LAN connection and select repair.

Try a reboot?

Is LAN cable good?

Could be alot of things. Any more information?

Is DHCP enabled on the router? Is there a pre-existing TCPIP for the LAN card?

Usually the "limited or no connectivity" is because it didn't get a good IP address.

Follow these steps through until resolution:
- disconnect and reconnect Ethernet cable from both ends
- reset your tcp-ip stack by going to Start->Run, type "netsh int ip reset log.txt" and press OK
- disable and reenable your Local area connection
- reset your router
- restart the computer
- uninstall and reinstall the driver (Control Panel->System->Hardware tab->Device manager button->Network adapters)
- test a different adapter

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

Adding to what said already I would try yet flashing APR cache by:

1.Go to command prompt window: “START” >> “RUN” >> type into window “CMD”
2.In new black window type: “ipconfig /release”
3.In same window type: “ipconfig /renew”

This will force your PC to obtain new private IP and should solve problem.

BTW concurring what “geek42903” said already.

AFTER EDIT: Referring to WDS answer below - I think someone provided already "netsh" command which does exactly that.
