I'm able to make my layups and jumpshots well, but I still stuck at free throws. How do I start shooting free throws well?
Being able to make free throws, especially when they count, is a huge part of the game and I need to start shooting them better for my coach to give me more minutes every game.
Anyone please help!

More details: Heh I still suck at free throws. What usually happens is that I aim to shoot, but the ball usually just bounces off the rim.

put your dominant foot forward. the big toe of that foot should be aligned with the repective knee, elbow, and index finger when lining up for a free throw. the other hand should be (very) minimally guiding the shot.
if you have access to a court, take a 100 free throws a day and count your daily makes.
before going to bed or when waking up, you can do the shooting drill where you lay flat on the bed while shooting a ball straight into the air and catching it without moving your arm. do this several times.
perfect your Free Throws and dribbling.
good luck.

First, it is a feel. When you take distance shots, you make adjustments based on how the previous shot placed. It is the same as with most sports that move balls, bowling, golf, baseball. You need to consistently get the feel for making the same shot over and over. The free throw is made from essentially the same place all the time, so the muscle memory is comparatively easy.
Next, you want to get the trajectory right. Shaq had trouble with this for a long time. He would make a straight shot with little arc or curve. Notice on the backboard there is a little square. With the right angle, you can put the ball onto that square it often will bounce into the basket. This is the easy way.
When you get a good feel of consistantly making the shot, then you adjust your angle a tad bit higher and a tad bit shorter and the shot becomes, as the announcers say, "nothing but net."
One more thing, during the game the adrenalin is going, and as most players discover, the same feeling will have you shooting too strongly. That is where a good vigorous warm-up helps. You can practice the shot best to remember the feel when you've got a rush and some sweat in your eyes--like you will when playing a good game.

get someone who can make a free throw well, ask them how to do it, and do what they do. it will most likely still miss or be a horrible shot but you just have to do what that person told you to do and keep practicing that. even if it takes hours keep practicing free throws and you will slowly get better. remember practice is the key to sucess
