1.what feelings toward God were the Puritans trying to inspire in their children? THEY WERE TRYING TO SCARE THEM BY TELLING THEM THAT GOD WAS GOING TO DO HARM TO THEM IF THEY DON'T FOLLOW GOD BECAUSE HE DIDN'T PARDON ANY LITTLE SINS

On the individual level, the Puritans emphasized that each person should be continually reformed by the grace of God to fight against indwelling sin and do what is right before God. A humble and obedient life would arise for every Christian.

The New England Primer, first published in 1690, was an educational textbook which was published in colonial and the early days of United States history, and the first textbook to be printed in the 13 colonies. The 90-page pamphlet contained many religious maxims, alphabetical assistants, acronyms, and moral lessons. Many of its selections were drawn from the King James Version of the Bible, and others were original. It embodied the dominant Puritan attitude and worldview of the day. Among the topics discussed are respect to parental figures, sin, and Salvation. It was published and kept in print well into the 19th century and was even used until the 20th. A reported 2 million copies were sold in the 1700s, and it was first compiled by an English journalist named Benjamin Harris.

Benjamin Harris printed the New England Primer. It was a hornbook used by Puritans to teach their children about the "awesome power of God." The Puritans tried to scare the living crap out of their kids. They tried to instill the idea that of original sin. In other words, you are born into this world a sinner and God will not accept you into heaven until you prove to him that you can live a wholly Christian life on earth. Their theories were extremely harsh and they banished many people who disagreed with their philosophies. They were totally strict and abided by everything in the bible. There you go, Puritanism in laymen's terms.

I know that the Puritans believed God interfered with their lives.
For example: If you were to do a good deed, then god would reward you, vice versa.
So, my guess would be that they wanted to inspire to do good deeds.
