You have an exhaust leak if it smells. That can be dangerous for your health to be smelling that.

My dear, you very likely have a clogged catalytic convertor...Often, an oxygen sensor code will be set (lean or rich). If the code is set and tells the engine to increase the fuel volume, you are most likely dumping raw fuel through your cat...this would explain the smell. This would also explain why your fuel economy has dropped...the engine is not burning it, it is just dumping it. If this is, in fact your problem, in addition to breaking the bank at the fuel pump, you could very well end up with engine damage due to "washed down" cylinders...hope this helps!

if you scaned computer and all was ok check air filter first there is a sensor on the engine on the engine that checks the atmospheric pressure and the computer adjust fuel delivery to the atomspheric pressure ( as driving at sea level comparied to driving in the mountains) this sensor can go bad and the computer will never know the differance so no code and computer is dumping to much fuel poor performance and fuel smell also check for leaking fuel injectors

i own a repair shop, and it sounds like it might have a bad fuel pressure regulator on it,it will make it run too rich on gas and use a lot more gas then it should, and it has t be checked by a shop, not many people have the tools to check one with, but id have it checked real soon,it may ruin the new plugs in it real fast, good luck i hope this help,s.

sounds like running very rich. too much fuel. try looking at the map sensor, vac line going to it, or a leaking fuel pressure regulator. take the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator, turn on the key, do not start it, and look for fuel coming out the nipple where you just removed the vacuum hose.if fuel leaks out , fuel pressure reg. is bad.

Does it run better when it is cold?
If it runs poorly, has no get-up-and-go, poor mileage all together, you might be looking at a failed catalytic converter.
Worth asking a reputable shop to check for you.
Good Luck
