1. to grow crops for food.
2. to keep working animals such as horses, camels donkeys and water-buffalo.
3. to build structures on, such as houses, factories and offices.
4. for travel, e.g. on foot, horseback, by car or rail.
5. for recreation, e.g. as cricket pitches and dog-walking areas. (Hopefully not both on the same patch of land:-))
6. to admire as a place of beauty in its natural state, e.g. mountains, national parks, coastal sand-dunes.
7. to grow trees on for use as timber for building, furniture, paper, and other wood products.

1. natural resources (food, meat, fruit, etc)
2. shelter
3. protection (from sea monsters such as sharks? =P)
4. oxygen to breathe (need trees to convert carbon dioxide to oxygen)
5. stable surface (to build a foundation on)
6. to sleep without drowning, hehehehe.
