As I haven't read her story I can only relate it as I see it.
In the story

The horrors of reality are that you awaken in the unreal world.
The child world you went to sleep in where everything was secure and in order for you no longer exists.

democracy doesnt mean a thing, and that we leave our lives (and the lives of others) in the hands of people that do not know us, have no knowledge of our beliefs and values, and are money-grabbing sadistic capitalists that would sacrifice the innocent for greed...
