I'm guessing it's Automatic. It's your transmission. Either drive it like that or go get a rebuilt transmission, about $1400 from a reputable mechanic. you may find one whos a little cheaper. That's as long as it's 2 wheel drive if it's 4x4 than it could be more. What's the truck worth than decide if it's worth fixing.

they didn't use a reverse gear in the transmissoin because the transmition was built for speed
