My son was sucking his thumb when he was in my belly.

hi,i have a book `pregnancy Week By Week` there is a photograph of a baby/fetus at in the womb16 wks. You can see the baby`s fingers formed!! however at wk 19 the illustration shows the baby sucking its thumb. when the baby is born I dont imagine it will be choosing its fingers/thumb rather its sorce of food. but the thumb will end up in the mouth! hence the suckling baby!! poss around 3-4 months maybe earlier.

some babys never suck there thumbs. my daughter is 17 months old and still has not suck her thumb

A lot of babys begin sucking their thumb inside the womb. My sister is pregnant, and on her sonogram picture, the baby is sucking her thumb, it's cute.

I saw my baby sucking her thumb on our second scan - so at 20 weeks! It was adorable. She now sucks 2 or 3 fingers at 3 months. Ahhh!

all the books i've read say 4 to 6 months. however, on my sonogram my unborn son w3as always sucking on his thumb so i think it depends on the child. my son is 3 months now but was 6 weeks premature and finds his thumb already.

My last child was sucking his thumb during the ultra sound. He only sucked on it for a few times after birth mostly when he would get hungry and I wasn't getting milk to him fast enough.... So I guess if they can get their hands near their mouths they will suck on it.

They can find them by fluke while you are still pregnant. My daughter started sucking her thumb consciously at 3 months.
