Around the time of Martin Luther King Jr., was there segregation up north?

Segregation has existed in the USA in all parts because of bigotry. The education system in the South was what was challenged most because there was no equal quality for minorities. Southern whites had the misconception that blacks were inferior and had their place. According to NAACP records, northern blacks were segregated more economically than educational.

I will spread his wish. Treat everyone he was born in this world equal. In Baseball however, I will take the time to honor all the great players whose path was paved by all the players who followed Martin Luther's wishes. (Larry Doby, Jackie Robinson, Don Newcombe, Roy Camponella) I hope everyone can take the time to remember his words and his overall goal. Happy MLK day Martin Luther

You bet. Where do you think all the biggest riots were. New York, Chicago, Philly, Boston, and out west in L.A.
The public schools were intergrated in the South many years before they were in the North.

Its still there, but in a kinda unwritten segregation....everyone knows the boundaries....and they just dont cross em.....and I think that sucks....everyone should live in some sort of peace with each other.

yes..i was a child during that era in new york state...the segregation was not as blatent as colored and white fountains or bathrooms, but it was very existant in other ways...

Not as bad as in the south. I grew up in PA. There was still predudice.

yes and there still is...socially, that is, and often times it is on "the under," it is not so obvious.
