Not all cells are. Giraffe neck cells are 4 and a half feet long.

Cells are microscopic because they are of very small size. They contain different organelles (mitochondrion, nucleus, lusosome, peroxisome are some examples (wikipedia would be good place to look these up) in cytoplasm.

Well...because they have to be...most cells couldn't take the strain of having too much mass and would collapse because of the pull of gravity on them. They're just designed to be that way...there are some larger cells...bacteria visible to the naked eye, and eggs are cells.

cells are microscopic because they wouldnt be very efficient if they were big. they use diffusion, a process that would be very slow in cells if they were big.

Having to do with surface to volume ratio. Besides, if a cell could be as big as you, motor proteins would have real "motors".

because if they werent then a) they probably wouldn't fit inside our bodies and b) they wouldn't work efficently because the size would put more stress on the DNA and proteins and such.
