you have to do more than download and install it.... have you actually run a scan on your system yet?
Go to Nortorn also and make sure you have an updated virus dictionary and then scan your hard drive

Try to quarantine it first if healing doesn't work.
If those don't work, you need to find out whats the name of the virus and print out the directions from Symmantec on how to get rid of it. Follow their directions. Then get off line after you've printed the directions so you can halt traffic just in case.
Nortons by default deletes it, but you should probably command it to quarantine it instead in case it's one of those viruses that multiply when deleted and then try to heal (delete) it. Symmantec can also scan your computer for free to see if it's worked in addition to your Nortons scan, but it takes awhile and you have to be online.

Hello,
You probably can't remove the virus unless you hand over some money. Does the AV (anti-virus) software tell you the path and the file of the virus? If so just delete it manally!

There should be a button that shows were you can delete it. I have Norton too and I know. It should ask you whether you want to delete in or not.

Did you run it? You need to run the program, have it detect your virus, then it will remove it for you when it asks you to verify removal.

McAfee is better - but you may need more than a program since you are already infected
Good luck
