If there was one area that you should plunk down your hard earned cash for, this is IT. And the best is trend micro(www.trendmicro.com). They consistanly alert and have solutions for viruses before anyone else. Virtually every time I turn on my computer, there is a Trend micro update. I sit back, smile, and think "yeah, baby". My friends used to have Norton, McAfee and yes--AVG. But they always went to Trend Micro's" housecall" for verification. They also got tired of me having virus solutions days, sometimes weeks before they got them. They now have Trend Micro. Also should there be a time when you get something that you cannot: clean, fix or quarantine, you can e-mail Trend Micro and they will e-mail you the solution within 48 hrs.--"guaranteed". Now that's team you want to be on. Oh, yeah, baby!

Check out the AVG Antivirus free version.

Go to http://www.download.com and search on AVG Antivirus. Read the software publisher discription, the tech review, and the user reviews.

Everything I've read on the Tech sites say AVG is one of the best and it doesn't eat up your resources like Norton and McAfee.

Hope this helps.
