My son has been doing very well with solids. I feed him his gerber as well as other things that we might eat, mashed potatoes, rice, he does very well. Just wanted to know if mayb giving him sweats that contained milk every now and then as a little treat or snack would affect him... Thanks for all of your answers...

Yes, but if the baby's never been exposed to ANY milk based products yet, then be sure to isolate the feeding and watch the results for a few days to see if there are any allergies.

For instance, only give her one helping, then don't feed her any more or any simillar foods for a few days to see if he/she becomes unusually gassy, constipated, or delevops a rash.

Whole milk will be what you swtich to after one year old, so you don't have to worry about whole vs. reduced fat. Babies need to have the fat that's in milk.

Just my 2 cents

When solids are introduced into the babys diet, chances are that they will contain milk products of some sort, even your humble mashed potatos are mashed with milk, if your baby is healthy and growing well, and has had no complications from milk / formula (lactose intollerant ect) then I would sugguest introducing it slowly into her/his diet, you will know fairly quickly if your baby is going to have a problem with normal milk.

I wouldnt sugguest giving only sweet treats like puddings but make the solids a varation or baby will only want to be eating sweets...and no matter what people say...babys are not stupid...they will eat what they like and try to convince you that they dont like veggies...dont let baby bluff you...i know it seems silly...but I have seen it happen so many times with friends babys...
There are certain foods your baby shouldnt be eating just yet...peanuts...i think this is the most commonly known...

honey...contain spores of Clostridium botulinum. The immune systems of adults and older children can prevent the spores from growing once ingested. However, in an infant, these spores can grow and cause infant botulism.

Strawberries are another food to avoid...alot of babies can be allergic to them, so avoid them in the first 12 months aswell.

Eggs (especially the whites) may cause an allergic reaction.

Citrus is highly acidic and can cause painful diaper rashes for a baby.

hope this helps

My son is 11 months old, and still on formula. I have been giving him, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, mashed potatoes (made with milk), and I even tried some pudding (not chocolate), all as snacks for a few months now, and he seems perfectly normal. It didn't affect him at all. My ped even had him on soy for a while because she thought he was lactose around six months.

my son thanks to my mother in law has had ice cream since he was like 4 months. Just little tastes at first now at 11 months when on rare occasions I do get it, we share a bowl or a cone. He loves it. My doctor also told me to start him on yogurt at 6 months. He loves that too. Its nice because it is sweet but still healthy. I found yobaby stoneyfield organic is good and that is made with whole milk. no problems yet!! : )
