Same thing happened to me.
I emailed yahoo customer services and the whole thing kinda reset itself after a couple of days.
Try contacting them and let them know what happenend.
They will reply and tell you how to fix the problem
And like everyone else said, get a back up email address just in case.

Yahoo always is playing up all the time.. It wont be like that for good, just whilst they sort out any glitches with the server, it slows it all down when there fixing it and because yahoo is a big server, people are on it a lot and that slows it dwn to.
I think you should create another email addy with msn or something for backup :)

Yahoo has been making updates on the New Mail system...oh, and as you know, yahoo always tries to make the server better for the people that use yahoo, it wont be like that for good but like the 1st answerer said, make a new addy on MSN, AIM, etc.

Mine did that recently. I had this email address for about 3-4 years, and when it started doing that, I just gave up using it. I checked my mail one day to at least see if I had anything new, and it wouldn't let me sign in, and in my alternate email, I got a thing saying that my yahoo email account has been terminated. You might want to get ahold of support; I had to make a new email address.
