I have wide hips and having a 9lb 4oz baby was not an easy task! Your first answerer knows exactly what I'm talking about even though she's small framed. As for your next two answers after hers, the birth canal isn't just about your vaginal opening! and the pelvis bone ARE movable! You ppl need to do a little reasearch about the human birthing process!

Birth canal:
The passageway -- made up of the cervix, vagina, and vulva -- the baby travels through during birth.

The pelvis:
The place at the front of the pelvis where both pubis bones join together is called the symphisis pubica. This is normally a very inflexible joint, but it softens and becomes more flexible during late pregnancy, allowing it to expand during labour for the baby's head to pass through.

In answer to the original question, the birth canal is meant to stretch and accomodate the birth of an infant. The only factor that would cause a problem is the size of the baby in reguards to the birth canal.

Boys & Girls:

Can't we all just play nice and get along? Many YAHOO questions and answers involve personal opinion. However, the birthing process itself is not an "opinion." There ARE factual answers to these types of questions...they are not GUESSES or HYPOTHESES. The human body works like the human body works. There IS a birthing process that anyone can research easily...the answers to which are not easily debatable.

I have 6 children and 6 grandchildren; I have some experience as well!

Peace & blessings to all pregnant Moms & Dads out there!

i don't think it would be a problem...the vagina is very elastic, and will stretch when the baby comes. the only problems would be if the woman's pelvis is too small, then she would have to have a c section. i have never heard of a woman not being able to give birth cause she is "too small", although many women have to have an episiotomy (getting cut at the entrance of the vagina) so that they don't tear when the baby comes out.

POKEYLOPE - actually, i don't need to do research...my friend HAD to have a c section because her pelvis was too small...and the research I did? I give birth once, going to again...it's called "proving"...do your own research!

Yep! The doctors also didn't know that my son weighed a big 9lbs 10oz! So he just wasn't fitting, and took forever to descend down. I'm really petite, so it's crazy I had such a big baby. Anyways, they ended up rushing me c-section finally after 19hrs of labor-my baby was also nose up instead of nose down (his head was down) making it even harder!

the only factor is the size of your pelvis, as you know it is made of unmoveable bone, if baby doesn't fit through there then you will need a c section
