Edgar Rice Burroughs "Tarzan of the Apes" was one of my favorites but he is a very good writter and makes you feel as though you are part of the action Clive Barkers "Raw Head Rex was one of the scariest books I've ever read and I have read all of Stephen Kings novels. Dean Koontze also writes good horror and There are many war novels that are worth reading am presently reading the Bible for the fourth time and this time taking notes for it is said the Bible is better than a colledge education if read properly and the begining of wisdom is the fear of God if the old testemate does not give you the fear of God nothing will. Good luck and reading is a good thing to do with spare time and increases knowledge.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy:
The Golden Compass
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass
the last one won the prestigious Whitbread award for novel of the year, although technically the series is children's fiction.

King Fortis the Brave!
It's about a pair of twins that are pulled into a magical world where they are caught up in a battle for control of the land. They have to learn to stop fighting with each other and work together if they are going to survive. Full of adventure, action and humor it would be a great choice.

One of the greatest true fiction stories I have ever read is Tommo & Hawk. It's a story about two brothers growing up in Australia in the 1800's. Fantastic story.
