Well, the powers that be, which are Konami, Shueisha(Shonen Jump in the US), and Upper Deck Entertainment; want to ban every OTK(one turn kill) and cards with free effects. You can only stifle someone's creativity so much before they get tired of it. Parents and little kids complained about how "unfair" certain cards were and finally the game makers listened. It was the worst thing they could ever have done. Plus, by banning cards players have to buy new ones to stay current and competitive.

From what I'm seeing of Strike of Neos, the set after Cyber Dark Impact, they may try to ban Mystical Space Typhoon because of a similar card in the set. It destroys only face-up S/T and you have to pay 500 lp. Its cost and drawback are similar to Lightning Vortex, which was once thought to be the new Raigeki. However, Lightning Vortex never caught on and it usually a side deck card at best.

In short, there aren't any rewards for playing Yu-Gi-Oh anymore. The creative spirit of the old days is gone. Killed by corporate greed and whining soccer moms.

A number of reasons. Poor quality control and testing allowing hugely broken cards or cards that end up errataed to do entirely diferent things. Reprinting collectable cards as commons. Things like that. But the biggest one is simply that most fads have a very limited lifespan and Yu-Gi-Oh has pretty much outlived it. The game will hang around for at least a while longer and may even make a comeback, but ultimately, it's just not a well enough designed game to really stick.

You don't have to. Go to youtube.com and check out Yu-gi-oh the abridged series. the guy who makes the videos takes an episode og yu-gi-oh and condenses it into four minutes. then he dubs over the voices.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a fad. Everyone who just went with it because it's current will leave when the fad dies. But the hardcore players, like me, will continue to play.

It seems all things just fade away with time. A few years back it was GI Joe and before that it was Gumbi and so on. Everything changes. Next thing you know straight leg jeans and punk will be back in style.
