Some men are scared of commitment because some women see commitment as the goal, rather than a state. In my experience, and it's more than personal experience, few women have affairs when they are being treated poorly, but when they are comfortable and bored. Unless it really is the right one, and both people are happy and secure enough in themselves not to need to prove to themselves they they are attractive, the scarcity principle is at work: scarcity is desirable, obtainable is not.

EDIT: The post from Rocky three or four down is a case in point. Very willing to settle down, be faithful and commit. Screwed over and divorced every time. I rest my case.

Same ol crap , it takes two to make a commitment , an how come all the single women are looking for Mr Right but a blokes afraid of commitment and is just putting it about , wise up ladies , we need the same input from you as you expect from us , and if you'r not getting the commitment that you'r looking for then obviouslly you'r not the right one , and vice versa of course .

okay, get this real answer. I am a husband of 25 years on december 31st. Your question should not reflect as "men" but 'some men," or maybe "most" or "younger...?" I know ther are many men out there that are very committed to thier wife and children and jobs,,,whatever, but the fact of this matter is that we all as human beings would rather live life free, fun, you get it I'm sure. women also would rather live hassle free. but you see, they get pregnant and are naturally committed to thier child or children more so then men are. maybe if we got pregnant we would be more mature and intellegent huh?

I am not afraid of commitment, my wife had an affiar 4 years ago, I am still commited to her. I have never cheated. Being 54 its my opinion that the younger generations doesn't know what commitment is.

I think it's because they're afraid of having their clocks cleaned by a woman. And that fear is not unfounded!

Men get the hose when it comes to divorce and custody. Mostly it's women who get custody and too many times they won't let Dad spend time with the children. And it's mostly women who initiate divorces.

If I were a man I'd be a bit hesitant too!

It's not the commitment that most of us are afraid of, it's the ridiculous expectations some women have, eg. being compared to their daddy, impossible!
