They have been classified as "detainees". They won't even tell us where they all are. GW Bush won't tell us the "methods" used. Yes, Americans should defend themselves from torture but at what cost? The loss of the American SOUL? These prisoners have been HIDDEN from the red cross and tortured!

We believe in due process and purport to believe in the Bill of Rights. Wherein the bill of rights do these prisoner scandals fall? Crap, a terrorist is BAD but even Ted Bundy got a trial! I suppose the fabled bill of rights only applies to Americans.

If we declared war then these these poor men should be P.O.W's entitled to Geneva rights. If we didn't declare war then there is no justification for holding them. These brutal tactics only cement us as the devil to the third world.

How can this torture possibly be justified? Ask yourself if you want to be tortured yourself and then I defy you to excuse it.

WARNING THE LINK CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES OF TORTURE. (Also, if it offends you, blame the BUSH ADMINISTRATION. I did not make the video.)

Yes, lateralus...and if WE don't respect our own treaty, why should they? You justify brutality because they'd do it to us. Human civil rights progress goes "poof".

(p.s. I'm a Veteran. The Declaration of Independance MANDATES this question and I wish it were not necessary.)

Well said. There is no justification for the torture and human rights violations the U.S. administration is responsible for. This should not be tolerated. Human rights should always be respected, even if the suspects are thought to be dangerous criminals. Sadly, the current U.S. administration seems to think it's above the law. Even worse, they get away with it.

Well said.

But please take into consideration that although the US of A (i.e. George W. Bush) is waging a war on terror...terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah are not legal entities (i.e. they represent no official government and are not official military personnel) and, therefore, cannot be classified as POWs.

Yes, the torture and maltreatment of suspected/alleged terrorists is disugsting, that cannot be denied. Unfortunately, there is a technicality or loophole in the system which allows this to happen.

The reality here is that any government will break its own rules in order to preserve their hold on power and the way of life they have prepared for its people. This attitude isn't exclusively from the USA. Every country breaks a few proverbial eggs to achieve their goals.

I don't say it's ok for them to do this. I'm just saying that that IS the way things are happening and the best that we can do is to voice out our opinions and displeasure at these unfortunate events.
