While mysticman was totally right in everything he said, never listen to anyone who gives you links from Tom's Hardware. Here's a real link for you, showing how much faster than K8's the Core 2 Duo's are: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2802&p=2

It starts out talking about overclocking, but keep reading (it's very interesting, and you'll learn alot), and there are about 10-12 pages showing how much faster the Core 2 Duo's are, at stock speed. You'll definitely be interested in this page: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2802&p=7

Intel Core 2 Duo model E6600, for around $315. The reason I recommend it is because it is the third fastest processor in the world right now, period, and the two that are faster are higher priced Core 2 Duo models. If anyone tells you AMD, they are flat out wrong, as the benchmarks I will provide should show. However in about six months Intel will have the Core 2 Quadros out (4 cores instead of 2) and those would be very good for video editing, I am just not sure if one will be available in that price range.

With the two certainly one of those projects, the processor isn't the main mandatory factor. modern pics enjoying cards are easily processors themselves designed specifically for pics artwork (so as that they have got fairly some cores, yet they're extremely slow). So for you, you will need fairly some RAM and a solid, committed pics card. and that i propose gaming workstation-point pics- those issues are not low value. you will need some thing like an ATI Mobility Radeon 5600 sequence or greater efficient or an Nvidia GeForce GT 320M or greater efficient. you will possibly decide for the i5 in basic terms via fact quite a few the video outcomes are nevertheless performed on the processor, and that they are going to be very slow on the decrease-end processors. so a procedures as frustrating tension is going, it is as much as you. in case you intend on doing fairly some video modifying, you would be able to decide for the bigger frustrating tension yet you will no longer want that for a on a similar time as. you are able to in basic terms get the 320GB now and then purchase a 1TB exterior frustrating tension in case you like greater area.

Don't even ask. In 6 months, this enire market will be WAY obsolete. Although, I swear by my AMD athlon 64 3000+ , now like $100 new. tock 1.8 AMD~2.1 Intel clocking. Overclocked safely to 2.2 AMD~2.4-6 INTEL. INTELs are for squares. Any athlon fx can clock faster than your glitzy gimmiky pentiums and "core duo". I mean, they were the first to make the fake dual processor "the Dual Core". And I have the SiSoft Sandra tests to prove that.
