they travel at the speed of light.

But in a sense, radio waves pass thru us, cell phone signals do too. And eventually a "microwave" will be absorbed by some type of water / moisture.

break up over distance.

interesting fact about microwaves: did your parents tell you to not stand too close to the microwave when it was on because of radiation? well, the radiation is completely contained, you are safe. And did you realize that an electric can opener emits more electro-magnetism (which is harmful after extensive periods of time at high levels of exposure) than your microwave!

So go ahead and press your face against that microwave, its ok!

Unless they are absorbed by something they go out into infinity (in a few years some alien could over hear your call) In fact most radio waves end up drifting out into space. (A cell phone is really nothing but a two way radio.)

The other thing that stops them is anything that will ground them out.

They are all classed as electromagnetic waves, including the spectrum of light, so, do you see light lingering in the corner when you turn the light off?

They keep on traveling out into space for ever, seriously! :)

They do NOT stick around or disperse, they travel like light does.
