When you get into the real world and have to work and be responsible you won't have the luxury to even consider taking a year off. I personally think taking a year off is just slacking. But that is only one persons opinion you should decide what is best for you. Good luck.

I don't recommend taking a whole year off, maybe just a semester or the summer. I took some time off, tried the marriage thing, the children thing, and finally received my degree 10 years later. Now I see my friends moving up in the world and I'm barely starting my career, regretting that I took that time off.

College is actually very different than High School, you have more flexibility with your schedule and if you plan out your schooling, you'll be out in 4-5 years (of course more, if you want to continue for a Masters or PhD). Something else I would suggest would be a "study abroad" program where you could experience a new country and culture while you earn credit for school.

It's your call, but if I could turn time back I would complete all my schooling, start my career, and then think about starting a family.

I think that everyone is different; I went from high school into college four days later, and regretted doing so for many years afterward. I recommend at *least* taking the summer off; if you can afford to take a semester or a full year off, that might be a good plan as well. I do think that you need to have a clear understanding of what you'll be doing with the time off. If you just do nothing, it won't mean anything - have a plan for working, traveling (even if it is just places nearby) or some other purpose, but don't just lie around for a year. Study skills are like any other, and need to be kept sharp. I would have done better taking a year off and working, but the decision has to be what works best for you.

that might be the best plan for you. if you feel that you will totally burn out on school if you don't take a year off then i suggest that you do. and on your year off do something fun, travel, get a job, etc. but do something with your time that a collage will be interested in. volunteer in stuff that you like and might possibly choose as a career. But if you do take a year off do go back to school. Collage grads do make more money in the long run!!
God Bless!!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. Did I say "NO?" If I didn't, I meant to. NO NO NO NO NO. Do NOT take a year off.

Huge numbers of people who don't move from high school right to college never make it. They get busy, they get married, they get other things happening and college gets hard to fit in. Do the right thing and take the plunge. Get it started and stick it out until its over. If you want to take a few months AFTER college to take a break you can try that... but realistically... by the time you get done with college you'll probably be ITCHING to put your new education to use in a (hopefully) high paying job.

DO NOT TAKE A YEAR OFF, DO NOT PASS GO. GO IMMEDIATELY TO COLLEGE, COLLECT THE EDUCATION YOU WILL USE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

What are you planning on doing that year? Time to yourself?? Does that mean just hanging out and doing nothing? Then NO, Are you going to get a job, maybe try and work in the field that you are considering...Might not be a bad idea.

Learn to spell....yes definitely, you don't want to apply to go to someone's are project (a collage) but to a college.

I recommend taking enough time to work out that college and collage are different things before you send applications to any colleges.

I did that and i **** happened, i grew dependent on work and money .. and only now 5yrs on am i going back to school when i was only meant to take a year off to save up and "take a break". Do it if you really really believe you can pull yourself together to go back - alot of stuff happens in a year. Goodluck hun!

I think it sounds like a pretty good idea. Maybe you could get a job or something too, then when you start college you would have a little extra money. That is probably what I will do.
But it should all be decided by what you think is right

no, don't take a year off... you get too used to the other lifestyle and can't switch back again and be a student... if you want to continue your education.. keep going now

if you take a year off, it's too easy to convince yourself later on that you didn't want that education
