Usually a professional dancer is called as a "proffessional dancer". In ballet dancing you call as a ballerina. Once she becomes the most senior ballerina in the troup she is called as "prima ballerina". Proffessional dancers are also called as 'choriographers'.

I personally daont agree with people who call dancers "strippers". Stripping is not dancing.

there are several types of professional dancers

You have
1) Ballerinas
2) showgirls (think Vegas)
3) Broadway Dancers (no explanation here)
4) exotic dancers (the ones at the strip joint)

a professional dancer cannot be called a doctor ,scientist or teacher etc,so it is obvious that he/she is called a dancer
