I am student teaching in a class with a girl who bullies others. The parents are no help as they teach their kids to bully (the whole family is like this, this girl is the youngest in the family) and they all like to gang up on people and fight if anyone tries to discipline. What to do?

Most likely this family doesn't want to hear about any problem. They are probably very defensive and mad and that is why they pick on each other and society. As a student teacher, be very careful what judgments you make. Legal statements can get you and the school in lots of trouble. Just give your student lots of praise and they may change their behavior if only in your presence. Your student knows no other way to act at this point.

I wish I had something to tell you about that. When a kid comes from that kind of family then it's really hard to change the behavior. All you can really do is carefully (so as to avoid a fight with mommy or daddy) discipline the child and use behavior modification techniques. Let me know if you figure out a way to get through to her. Good luck!
