I had a very bad experience a few years ago where I lost a job I was never qualified for and had difficulty finding another. I was getting unemployment but was dying inside from frustration so I took a temp job. Long story short: it wasnt enough money, fell in a big hole and ended up living in a homeless ministry's transitional housing for five months till I got on my feet. The whole thing shocked my system pretty badly and I am having difficulty with fear over a lack of financial security as a member of the working poor. Though the fear is grounded in reality, some of it is irrational, nonetheless. To simply climb the class latter and make more money would be a superficial way to try to deal with the fear, so other than that...any advice?

Have confidence in yourself. I'm pretty sure you have heard this saying, "If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything." Be more optimistic and try not to feed yourself negative thoughts. If you feel like your having a panic attack, talk yourself out of it saying that you're going to be OK. Also, try mediation too so you can relax your mind and body.

This is a tough one, but I'll give you my thoughts and you can take them for what they're worth. If you are truly afraid of poverty, I can see where you'd want to be sure what happened to you can never happen again. Are you a religious person? As a Christian, I feel more in control when I give control of my finances over to God. Now, that's easier said than done, and it's really a matter of trust. Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't go out and try to better my situation. Financial disaster can happen to anyone and it might be helpful to read some books by people who experienced that and rose above it. As with any fear, the main thing is not to let the fear take control of you and keep you from realizing a life of fulfillment and joy. A book I would recommend would be 'The Law of Attraction' by Losier. It doesn't deal with finances, per se, but it may be helpful in giving you a different perspective.

I can empathize with your feelings. The only advice that I can give is the advice I try to take. Face your fears. Scars are hard to heal and can take years. Just start at the bottom and work your way back up rather than than trying to start at the middle. Give yourself a chance by starting at the bottom so you can feel successful and work on your self confidence as you are climbing your ladder of life. Good Luck to you and I wish you success.

1. Prayer, 2. Identify the fears which takes STRENGTH & COURAGE. 3.Remember you are complete and whole regardless of your expierences.4. This is the KEY POINT to conquering fear. 5.When you realize things don't go well or fail, someone rejects and criticizes, that this no longer will impact you or yourself esteem, you will conquer fear. { too many times we allow "external life events" define who we are. Those who accept/reject you DO NOT DEFINE WHO YOU ARE. You don't need accomplishments or others approval to feel good about yourself.}
*Accept the principles as part of your new thinking process, fear will plummet, your self-esteem will be secure, the result, you will have all the courage you need.

Just don't be too hard on yourself regarding job situations. They come and go.

Are you interested in studying something or pursuing some career? Instead of worrying so much about work, you might want to go to school and see about getting a loan. After that you could work and start paying it off.

Be open to all sorts of work experiences too. Maybe try looking up some volunteer type experiences, like working on a farm as part of some overseas exchange. Does the Peace Corps still exist? That sort of thing. Picking grapes in France, ploughing some field in Equador. Things like that.

I think it's very normal that you're having this fear. It's very real and completely understandable.
I believe you need to channel your fear to the right direction. Instead of having fear, try to save money and spend on things that you absolutely have to only.
Your fear will be gone once you are financially stable.

face your fear head on, do whatever you need to do, u have a realistic fear, the hardest to deal with are irrational fears...but yours, quite legit...use that fear as your motivation to excel and step ahead, some of the successful businessman and professionals are doing very well in their jobs or businesses because of that fear...to go rock bottom. so they become driven to succeed..

The best way to conquer fear is to do what you fear continuously. After a while you become numb to it.
How that could be done in your case would take some thought...
