American money because America owns Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is a United States colony. We use U.S. dollars. We also use the U.S. Postal Service and there is a U.S. District Court here in San Juan.

When Puerto Rico used to be a colony of Spain, we used the Spanish currency of the period.
