"Temperate cold" isn't especially well definied. The place I live, the American Midwest, is usually considered temperate. Here summer highs are 30 - 35 degrees Celsius (85 - 95 F), with overnight lows 15 - 20 degrees Celsius (55 - 65 F). In winter highs are -10 to -5 Celsius (10 to 20 F), and lows are around -20 to -15 (around 0 F).
